What is Trichomoniasis
Trichomoniasis is an infectious disease caused by parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. It is the most common curable STD.
How is Trichomoniasis spread?
The parasites transmit from an infected person to an uninfected person during vaginal sex. It not only limited to transmission between penis and vagina, but also from a vagina to another vagina. It is not common for the parasite to infect other body part, like anus or mouth. People have treated for trichomoniasis can be infected again.
What is the symptom?
About 70% of men and women do not have symptoms when infected.
Men with trichomoniasis may find:
・Itching or irritation inside penis
・Painful or burning sensation during urination or ejaculation
・Unusual discharge from penis
Women with trichomoniasis may find:
・Itching, burning of genitals
・Discomfort during urination
・Fishy smell vaginal discharge
When can I receive the test and the accuracy of it?
How can it be treated? And what I do after treatment?
Trichomoniasis can be cured with proper treatment.
・Antibiotics tablets
・You and your sex partner are advised to have treatment if one of you is found to have NGU
During/After the treatment:
・Avoid alcohol within 24 hours after taking this medication
・Wait seven days to have a recheck after finishing all prescription to ensure the infection is cleared
・Have review with doctor if the symptoms do not go away after medication
・Avoid having sex until the recheck result is showing negative in Trichomonas
What happens if trichomoniasis is not treated?
・Pregnant women may have preterm delivery
・Increase getting or spreading other STD
