What is Gonorrhea?
Gonorrhea is a Sexual transmitted disease (STD) caused by infection with bacterium Neisseria gonorrhea. It can infect the genitals, rectum, eyes and throat in both men and women.

How is Gonorrhea spread?
Gonorrhea passes from people to people by having unprotected vaginal, anal or oral sex with someone who has gonorrhea. If you have had gonorrhea infection and had been treated before, you can still get be infected again through sexual activities. A pregnant woman with gonorrhea can pass the infection to her baby during delivery.

What is the symptom?
Men who do have symptoms, having more conspicuous symptoms:
Painful or burning sensation when urinating
Unusual discharge from penis, the discharge may be white, yellow or green
Frequent urination
・Painful or swollen testicles

 About 50-80% of the infected women have no symptoms. Women who do have symptoms may experience:
Painful or burning sensations when urinating
Increase vaginal discharge
Abdominal pain or abnormal vaginal bleeding

Rectal infection may cause symptoms in both men and women, including:
Discharge
Bleeding
Painful bowel movements

Infection in other area, may notice:
・Eyes: Cause pain, swelling
Throat: Usually no symptoms

How can it be treated? And what should I do after treatment?
Gonorrhea can be cured with proper treatment.
Antibiotics tablets
Antibiotic injection
You and your sex partner are advised to have treatment if one of you is found to have gonorrhea

After the treatment:
Wait seven days to have a recheck of gonorrhea after finishing all prescription to ensure the infection is cleared
Avoid having sex until the re-test check result is showing a negative result in gonorrhea

What happens if gonorrhea is not treated?
Untreated gonorrhea can cause serious health problems.
In Men, it can lead to narrowing of the urethra, difficulty in urination and kidney failure
In women, it can cause infertility
An infant may suffer from blindness from that caused by the eye infection
