Symptoms of HIV

Within 2-4 weeks after HIV infection, many, but not all, people develop flu-like symptoms (so called acute antiretroviral syndrome) as the body’s natural response to the HIV infection. Symptoms vary across individual and it includes fever (usually higher >38oC), swollen glands, sore throat, muscle and joint aches and pain, fatigue, headache and diarrhea. The symptoms will gradually disappear and becomes asymptomatic over time.

If HIV is not treated properly, around 50% of all cases will progress as AIDs. As the number of white blood cells gradually decrease, patients will potentially suffer from secondary complications.

What tests are involved and how accurate are these tests?

It is very important not to delay your diagnosis and we highly recommend an immediate visit to our clinic if you believe you have a potential infection. You will be guided by our specialist team according to your window period. We offer the four HIV tests below:

Test Window Period Test Accuracy
HIV 1/2 Rapid Test 3 Months 99.5%
HIV 1/2 Rapid Test 3 Months 99.5%
HIV 1/2 Rapid Test 3 Months 99.5%

Remember, no tests are 100% accurate. All our tests are internationally approved and set at a high standard. Testing kits used will pick up almost all HIV infections if used under the correct window period. All positive HIV tests are repeated to confirm the result.

What are the consequences of delayed treatment?

Once you are infected with HIV you will remain infected with the virus for the rest of your life. During this period you may transmit the virus to someone else. If HIV is not monitored and treated carefully, it will cause long-term damage and progress into late stage of HIV infection.
